Companies House Identity Verification: In just 2 weeks time, from the 18th of November 2025, Companies House will require all individuals involved in UK companies to verify their identity.
This change, part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, aims to improve corporate transparency and reduce fraud in UK business registrations.
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), Everett King can manage this verification process for directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and businesses, ensuring your company stays fully compliant.
Why Companies House Identity Verification Is Being Introduced
Until now, Companies House did not confirm who company directors or owners were.
The new rules aim to:
-
Confirm that individuals are who they claim to be
-
Improve the accuracy of Companies House records
-
Prevent misuse of UK company structures
-
Strengthen trust in the UK business environment
These reforms form part of a broader effort to make company ownership more transparent and reduce economic crime.
Who Must Complete Companies House Identity Verification
The verification rules apply to several key roles:
Directors
-
New directors must verify their identity before appointment.
-
Existing directors need to verify and include their Companies House personal code when filing their next confirmation statement after 18 November 2025.
People with Significant Control (PSCs)
-
PSCs who also act as directors must complete separate verifications for each role.
-
PSCs not acting as directors must verify within the first 14 days of their birth month.
-
New PSCs must verify within 14 days of being added to the register.
Other Roles
Verification also applies to LLP members, company secretaries, and filing agents, depending on their responsibilities.
How the Companies House Verification Process Works
You only need to verify once.
The process can be completed in two ways:
-
Online via Gov.uk One Login, or
-
Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) such as Everett King.
Once you verify your identity, Companies House will issue a personal code that links your identity to your company roles.
You’ll use this code for all future filings.
By choosing Everett King as your ACSP, you can complete verification quickly and correctly, without managing the process yourself.
Consequences of Not Completing Verification
Failing to verify could lead to:
-
Restrictions on company filings or appointments
-
Financial penalties
-
Inability to incorporate or act as a director
-
In serious cases, disqualification or legal action
To avoid these outcomes, ensure you complete verification before the deadline.
